Cairngorm, mammal, rodent, ScotlandBy Neil-UKWildlifeDecember 5, 2013Leave a comment

While in the Cairngorms this March, some friends set me up in a hide early one morning to try and get some shots of a red squirrel. It was something like -7C so I was wrapped up warm, but the light was OK so I waited. Eventually the squirrel came out a few times and…

Long tailed tit

Back in march I sat in a freezing cold hide waiting for a crested tit to pose for a photo. One never did that day, but I did finally get a nice shot of a long tailed tit.

This week there has been a Juvenile scaup at RSPB West Canvey Marshes. This duck is usually found on the sea, so it was nice to see one on an inland site when I visited yesterday. It was a long way off so I had to use the Pentax q with the adapter and 300mm,…

Scorpionfly

Essex, insect, wat tyler cpBy Neil-UKWildlifeNovember 21, 2013Leave a comment

Back in May, I got the only opportunity to photograph one of my favourite insects, a scorpiongly. Despite that scorpion like tail on the male, they can not sting. They are fantastic exotic looking insects, that feed on dead flies etc, often stealing them from spiders webs!
