bird, heron, Kent, OareBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 29, 2013Leave a comment

Yesterday I popped to the KWT Oare Marshes reserve. It was pretty quiet in terms of people and birds. I did see a little egret and I got a shot of it with my K5. I had gone to try out my Pentax Q on the DA*300mm with the adapter but the sun of course…

bird, crow, thrush, videoBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 25, 2013Leave a comment

Been going through some old videos and found this one from a few years ago, filmed in Regents Park, London. What has happened here is a magpie (a species that is a known egg thief) has got too close to a mistle thrush nest and the parents are not happy! Watch what happens when the…

bird, BOP, Essex, gull, wat tyler cpBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 22, 2013Leave a comment

Today at Wat tyler CP I was hunting around for fieldfares to point my DA*300mm + Pentax Q with adapter combo at, but ended up in the hide. When I got there the kind chaps from the RSPB told me there was a caspian gull out on the scrape. It was at least 200 if…

Pied wagtail

bird, Essex, wat tyler cpBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 16, 20132 Comments

Been playing with my Pentax Q today and managed this shot of a pied wagtail. It was over 10m away and this shot is about 2/3rds of its original size. The reach of this set-up is great, although it is a bit fiddly.

bird, Kent, owl, SheppeyBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 14, 20132 Comments

On Saturday I had a trip round Sheppey, thanks to Phil (@sheppeywildlife on twitter) and saw some great birds. The weather was very dull but I got my best ever shots of 3 birds. Little owl. Snow bunting And red legged or French partridge. I was a great day, thanks to Phil for showing me…

Magpie Pica pica

bird, crow, Essex, wat tyler cpBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 13, 2013Leave a comment

Here are a few shots of a magpie from a couple of months ago. These are quite wary birds and Ive never really managed a good shot of one, but I was reasonably happy with these.

Here are a few photos (from June last year) of a pair of nesting Avocets. Due to the risk of from egg thieves I held off from posting these and then never got round to it, so here they are:
