Spoonbill

A couple of weeks ago I had a day on the Isle of Sheppey to enjoy some of the wildlife found there. The south of the island is mostly grazing marsh and is rich in wildlife, especially waders and raptors. I took 100s of photos on that day, but the highlight was a spoonbill seen…

Best of 2014 part 2

Well its taken longer than planned, but here is the best of my photos from July to December 2014 In July I had a close encounter with a giant horselfy Tabanus sp. Thankfully they are not usually interested in biting humans! I visited Thursley common on the way to New Forest and after disappointing amount…

Rainham marshes Ducks and snipe video

It was miserable weather yesterday when I visited Rainham Marshes yesterday and the main reason for my visit was to pick up a signed copy of ‘Dragonflight’ by Marianne Taylor (with whom I had a nice chat about dragonflies and the fun involved in photographing them!). Look out for a review once I read it!…

Lesser Yellow legs at West Canvey Marshes video

Popped over to West Canvey Marsh RSPB reserve yesterday in my lunch break to see the Lesser Yellow Legs, a bird I have never seen before. It was a distant view, and sadly the design at West Canvey means all birds on the far side of the lake there are and the birds on the…

Lapwing Vanellus vanellus

Misty Morning at Elmely Marshes

The morning of my last post when I got the Merlin was quite an atmospheric and misty one.

There was bit of a frost around as an egret was hunting along a flooded ditch.

There was a nice flock of curlews too.

And a rabbit just about posed on the grass.

Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima at Southsea Castle, Portsmouth

On Sunday I gave 2 talks at Portsmouth Aquarium and while there I went to look for the Purple sandpipers on the sea wall at Southsea Castle. Afterwards, just before the sunset I managed a few shots of them. The sun was literally just above to slipping below the horizon, so these are taken at…
