Today at Wat tyler CP I was hunting around for fieldfares to point my DA*300mm + Pentax Q with adapter combo at, but ended up in the hide. When I got there the kind chaps from the RSPB told me there was a caspian gull out on the scrape. It was at least 200 if not 300m away so what you see below is a 100% crop, even at 1600mm focal length! Still its a lifer for me!
I had the Q on the lens when female marsh harrier turned up and just like last time, I thought, it would be gone before I could change bodies back to my K-5 DSLR. But for once the wildlife cooperated and she circled round to give me time to swap before passing by the hide at the closest I’ve had them yet with the camera in hand.
She even hovered perfected – expect she was facing the wrong way!
I quite like it anyway!
I also had a water rail run about and a dark, seeming swept wing bird whizzed past when the harrier was near. I’m fairly sure it was a merlin, but having never seen one and with the sun behind it I can’t be sure. Shame as it would have been lifer no.2 for the day and year!
