Wasp beetle and common crab spider
Back in May a wasp beetle was found and I got a few photos. It is a type of longhorn beetle that mimics a wasp to fool predators into thinking its dangerous. Also found was this common crab spider.

While photographing the wheatear at Wat tyler CP, I noticed something on its beak. I seems to be some sort of weevil. Possibly Sitona lineatus or s imilar weevils species.
Today at Wat tyler, I got told there was a wheatear in the car park. So I grabbed my gear and headed out to have a look. I grabbed some record shots before it flew to the nearby gravel. I managed to creep quite closely by laying on my belly doing a pretty decent seal…

I’ve been editing some pics from earlier in the year and I came across my photos of the chiffchaff that posed nicely for me. These are probably my best shots of this species.

A quick look for wasp spiders was fruitless but we found this lovely common toad (Bufo bufo) crawling across the path. I sadly don’t see toads often,…
Following on from my last post, at Hadleigh Country Park there were were also plenty of butterflies. This Essex skipper was a nice find. It looks like a small skipper but the underside of the antennae are black. There were also some marbled white butterflies about. This one was looking a little tatty I tried…
This evening I went for a quick walk around Wat Tyler CP and thought I’d check a wasp spider hotspot. Sure enough there were 3 webs with spider present. Only one was in a reasonable position for photography. They were eating the grasshoppers, like this lesser marsh grasshopper. And this meadow grasshopper. I got some…
