UncategorizedBy Neil-UKWildlifeOctober 24, 2011Leave a comment

Over the last weekend I was lucky enough to be involved in a record breaking/setting attempt to build 50 ponds at least 1m squared in size on a site near Wickford. Im pleased to say it was completed in 8 hours. I was there on the first day when we managed 44 in 6.5hrs, so…

Desert grey shrike eating a gecko

bird, LanzaroteBy Neil-UKWildlifeOctober 20, 2011Leave a comment

On day 4 of my trip we were walking along the seafront when I spotted the desert grey shrike calling from a TV aerial. It was way to high up for a photo and we were looking for somewhere to eat. Walking back the other way to head the resturant we fancied I couldn’t believe…

Day 3 of my trip to Lanzarote I went for a walk along an area in front of the sea wall that had some low scattered scrub. Here I found my first dragonflies of the trip: a red veined darter dragonfly. There were also some bath white butterflies feeding on the limited number of flowers.…

Wat Tyler Wheatear

bird, Essex, wat tyler cpBy Neil-UKWildlifeOctober 11, 20115 Comments

Today at Wat tyler, I got told there was a wheatear in the car park.  So I grabbed my gear and headed out to have a look.  I grabbed some record shots before it flew to the nearby gravel. I managed to creep quite closely by laying on my belly doing a pretty decent seal…

Bee wolf, 22 spot ladybird and brown argus at Canvey Wick

butterflies, Essex, grasshopperBy Neil-UKWildlifeOctober 10, 2011Leave a comment

Back in August, I went along to the Buglife walk at Canvey Wick.  The weather was not perfect but improved as the day went on so we did find some nice invertebrates, which is what the site is famous for.  In fact it is believed to have more species per hectare than any other site…
