On a trip up to Yorkshire I visited Filey Brigg with my friend Dave, I spent a day at Filey Brigg. We had heard that purple sandpipers could be found there, something neither of us had seen. And we managed to see a few:
The light was either poor (cloudy, needing 1600 to have any chance of getting a sharp shot of these always moving birds!) or coming from the seaward side, making lighting a bit tricky!
It was a pleasant morning with only me, Dave and a fisherman out on the rocks, but as you can see from the above the sun did start to emerge from the clouds. Just as the light got good and the purple sandpipers were coming close enough for near frame filling shots, they all flew off. I looked up and there was an idiot with a dog, who had decided walking on the slippery wet rocks right in front of me was a better option than the dry ones behind me where I and the birds would not have been bothered by him…..another nice wildlife encounter/photo ruined by an inconsiderate dog walker, story of my life!
