Selfish dog owners strike again

There has recently been a campaign in a local park to try and get dog owners to pick up their dogs mess, rather than leave it on the path or in meadows where people and children may come across it. A big poster campaign involved putting up lots of signs/posters, many of which quickly ended up like this:

Some have been ripped from their posts a thrown into ponds and the surrounding vegetation. I suppose it could be anyone, but there are other signs that have been up for months and not been touched, where as signs asking dog owners to not let their dogs go in ponds (due to the disease risk to their dogs and it harming wildlife, including great crested newts) are ripped within days, all of which suggests its disgruntled dog owners.

Being screwed in place, must have taken some effort, even more than just picking up after your dog and finding a dog bin to put the poo bag in…..perhaps travelling 2 feet was just too far

There are also plenty of dog bins in the park, one near every car park (so they won’t have to take it home) and a few more around the main paths, I reckon unless you actively avoided the bins you would come across one at least every 15mins. Is that too long for these people? Do they expect all the council rate payers to pay for more bins and for people to empty them all the time, just so they don’t have to walk along with a bag full of dog poo in their hand!? If they can’t cope with carry a bag of poo for 15mins, perhaps they shouldn’t have got a dog in the first place!

While of course not all dog owners are this ignorant, this is just another sign of this growing problem and selfish attitude of a large number of people with dogs.

<edit> I’ve just noticed the message below the ripped of poster board above “what about the rubbish left by people” – yes dog walker, littering is bad, but generally doesn’t lead to children going blind!  And so what if others are littering, doesn’t mean you can leave your litter in the form of dogs mess lying around!
