Carrion crow
Last week I came across a couple of crows in the morning sun. One of the resident crows displays some leucism with some with some white feathers mainly on the wings.

Here are a few shots of a pond skater a took a few weeks back. These true bugs or heteropterans stand on the surface tension of the water and ‘skate’ across it to catch insects that become trapped in the water. These were all taken using my photographic aquarium, which was full to the brim,…
Some more photos from that day back in June when I got the marbled white butterfly. I got another butterfly species, a large small skipper. There was plenty of goats rue in flower. I spotted this wood mouse. And a male scarce emerald damselfly.
Until this year one species of butterfly that had eluded any good shots was the marbled white. This year I came across one on a knapweed flower in Wat Tyler Country Park. I managed to photograph it as it gripped onto the flower in a breeze. I got various angles between the gusts of wind.
More from my pond photography back in February. This time the backswimmer or greater water boatman photos. These insects are one of the true bugs (heteroptera) a group of insects characterised by their mouthparts which have fused into a proboscis. You can see it clearly in this photo. I also got a couple of new…
I’ve finally got round to editing some photos from a pond photography session back in February. This included some of my best photos of phantom midge.
Yesterday I photographed some of the creatures that turned up in a quick dip of a slightly brackish to freshwater ditch in Wat Tyler CP. Here I found what I’m pretty sure is Berosus signaticoillis a type of water scavenger beetle. It is possibly another species but Im pretty sure it is one of the…
Back in May a wasp beetle was found and I got a few photos. It is a type of longhorn beetle that mimics a wasp to fool predators into thinking its dangerous. Also found was this common crab spider.
While photographing the wheatear at Wat tyler CP, I noticed something on its beak. I seems to be some sort of weevil. Possibly Sitona lineatus or s imilar weevils species.
Today at Wat tyler, I got told there was a wheatear in the car park. So I grabbed my gear and headed out to have a look. I grabbed some record shots before it flew to the nearby gravel. I managed to creep quite closely by laying on my belly doing a pretty decent seal…
