insect, New forestBy Neil-UKWildlifeJuly 14, 2013Leave a comment

As well as Dragonflies there were some nice butterflies at Crockford Stream in the the New Forest, including a first for me, a Dark green fritillary Argynnis aglaja. In the hot sun they were very active and didn’t perch for long, so I only managed a few grab shots.

When in Kefalonia last May we popped to Livadi for a few hours and I found a number of toadlets, that turned out to be young Green toads Bufo viridis. In the warm sun they didn’t sit and pose well but I got some nice enough shots.

Alien Species, Factfile, ReptileBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 5, 2013Leave a comment

Here is an article I wrote for my old blog. I’ve gone through and checked for mistakes and added some bits: Green lizard is the common name that refers to two species that were formally one (Lacerta viridis). The new species, the western green lizard (Lacerta bilineata), is now considered separate from the eastern green…

Green Toad Bufo viridis in Kefalonia

amphibian, Greece, Kefalonia, toadBy Neil-UKWildlifeJanuary 1, 20131 Comment

While in Kefalonia we had a couple of rain showers during the evenings. I had seen some green toadlets in another town and a squashed adult green toad in the grounds of the hotel so I grabbed a torch and when the rain stopped and almost right outside the door was a green toad hopping…

On saturday I popped up to Reculver in North Kent. it was high tide so I didn’t make it to the beach, but in the grass around the castle and car park there were a number of waders. Most of them turned out to be golden plovers. There was also a dunlin. Which poked its…

Some more photos from Wales now, with photos of a green hairstreak butterfly I found at Dinas Head. I had only seen one green hairstreak before and this male was quite a poser and didn’t fly far when it did take off. So I tried a few shots of it showing the bracken it was…
