A few months ago I heard that there were adapter for the Pentax Q that would let me mount it on my Pentax DA*300mm Prime. For those who don’t know the Pentax Q is one of the small interchangeable lens cameras that have recently been made by a number camera of manufacturers. The Pentax Q however is the smallest and has one of the smallest sensors, which means a larger crop factor and a higher 35mm equivalent focal length. When the price of the Pentax Q dropped to less than £100 I could not resist giving this a go. I bought a £30 adapter of Ebay and as soon as it arrived the sun and suitable subjects disappeared! Today however I got word that a snipe was posing in front of the hide and I headed there and got this shot:
This image is cropped, had some white balance, sharpening and selective noise adjustment applied. It was taken at ISO 400, 1/320th shutter speed, in clouded over conditions and by resting the the lens on the hide window frame (no tripod). Don’t think it is bad considering this is cropped from the equivalent of 1700mm, with the bird at least 20 to 25metres away!
For those who are interested:
100%(ish) crop straight from camera (raw) and exported from Lightroom:

Interesting post Neil and a superb shot of the Snipe. My wife has the Panasonic G3 with the 100-300 lens and it’s not far off my D90 + 50-500. I’m seriously thinking off going micro next year.
