Today I popped into Bedfords Park for a break and to have look for red eyed damselflies. But what caught my attention were the many emperor dragonflies spread along the lake margin, each patrolling their territories and scrapping with each other where they crossed paths.
Occasionally one would hover, and this one did at a reasonable distance.
I did manage to find some red eyed damselflies, sadly no small red eyed and most stayed to far out to photograph, but one posed on an algae cover twig.
A four spotted chaser posed nicely too.
And this drone fly hovered right by my feet.
Finally in one of the newer ponds (sadly very muddy and the bank lined with horse and dog footprints) there were some backswimmers, and some black dots which turned out to be ostracods
