Last weekend I was on a Forest School Course with the excellent people at EarthcraftUK in Blean Woods. There are a number of wood ant nests in the area and in a lunch break I found a line of them heading up a tree, but it was midday and they were very active and very hard to focus on with a macro lens, let alone get a sharp shot!
I noticed however that some were wandering up a nearby twig and some where stopping ever so briefly at the tip. So I crouched down, focused on the the end of the twig and waited. I took about 150 shots, most of which were blurred by the ants movement or out of focus, but I did get one shot I was pleased with:
And I was pretty happy with this one too.
I had to crop this a bit too one heavily sadly.
And just didn’t quite get the DOF I wanted on the head on this one.
Still a productive half hour considering though! I must do a ood in depth blog about this fantastic creatures one day too!
Fantastic pictures- where’s Gary? Xx
Thanks Nici, Gary’s coming up next!
