I’ve been seeing large red damselflies for a couple of weeks, but none until today have settled anywhere I could get a half decent photo.
This male I found today in Wat Tyler CP sat nicely on a leaf and let me photograph him. There was however a bit of a light breeze and it was basking with its back to the sun, making lighting the side on shots a bit tricky, but still better than anything else in 2014 so far.
So along with the azure damselfly seen last week, blue tailed damselfly and the patrolling male hairy dragonfly I saw today it suggests the odonata season is well upon us, which should mean plenty of dragonflies for my dragonfly and butterfly photography course at the end of May, details of which can be found here
