We talk to Derek Gow about Beaver reintroduction and the story behind it, which is the topic for his book ‘Bringing Back the Beaver’ (available at all good bookstores).
He tells the story of well evidenced projects that were stopped by the actions of an influential few, and the success that was won to keep the beavers ain the River Otter.
Derek also answers listener questions on beaver lives, the effect on the environment they live, the valid (and invalid) objections from some to their reintroduction, and the possible conflicts they may cause and how they can be mitigated for.
In news we cover the story of wader chicks rescued from egg collectors, reared and released in to the wild, and spoonbills breeding in Suffolk for the 1st time in 300 years!
