A couple of weeks ago I decided to get out the photographic aquarium and try some freshwater invertebrate photography, as I hadn’t tried any for a while. It was pleasingly successful and reminded me why I enjoy this type of photography.
I photographed this Berosus sp. water beetle.
I managed one nice shot of a Rhantus frontalis Diving beetle.
I got some photos of caddisfly larva, but still haven’t got one I’m really happy with.
The lesser water boatman are generally cooperative though, and this one posed nicely.
Wow, those are some superb photos, of some really cool insects, love the lesser water boatman, I’d be interested to know the setup you use (I see you say photographic aquarium, but no idea what that actually means?) as well as how you capture the creatures, is it simply pond dipping or some other means?
Hi Ashley, I catch the creatures with a pond net and put them in a tray, from which they get put in a photographic aquarium. This post covers the basics of the set up http://www.uk-wildlife.co.uk/pond-creature-photography-set-up/
