First slow worms of the year

Essex, Lizard, ReptileBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 15, 2013Leave a comment

I found my first reptiles of the year this morning: some slow worms. They were fairly sluggish, at least to start with, so I got a few shots of them before they slithered off.

Fraser’s bridge on Clunie Water, Glen Clunie

Cairngorm, landscape, landscapes, ScotlandBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 14, 2013Leave a comment

While driving through the Cairngorms we stopped at Fraser’s bridge on Clunie Water, Glen Clunie. The wonderful bridge was too nice to ignore, even to someone like me who doesn’t do much landscape photography (though I did have to clone out a street sign out of one of the photos). I also got a shot…

Grizzled skipper and Balkan wall lizard on Mount Aenos

butterflies, Greece, insect, Kefalonia, ReptileBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 13, 2013Leave a comment

In a break from the photos from Scotland, here are some from my holiday last year to Kefalonia. While driving up Mount Aenos we stopped to admire the view. I spotted this butterfly flying, I believe it is a dingy skipper. EDIT: it’s a grizzled skipper On a rock nearby this Balkan wall lizard was…

Snow Bunting Plectrophenax nivali in the snow

bird, Cairngorm, ScotlandBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 7, 2013Leave a comment

One stop while in the Cairngorms was Cairngorm Mountain. In the car park there you can often find snow buntings, which can be tempted down a bit closer with some seed. It was pretty snowy so I got shots of them on the rocky wall with some snow around.

Great tit, treecreeper and Chaffinch

bird, finch, titBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 5, 20131 Comment

Some more photos photos from Loch Garten. A great tit posed, looking right at me, which gives a bit of a different perspective. A treecreeper landed in a pine tree and I managed a couple of grab shots as it searched for food. And a chaffinch posed on the twig.

Coal tit Periparus ater

bird, Cairngorm, Scotland, titBy Neil-UKWildlifeApril 4, 2013Leave a comment

One bird that frequented the feeders while in the Cairngorms was the coal tit. On my first day I got a number of photos using my 300mm.

I’m not one for doing landscapes, but even I couldn’t resist a view like this. Ive stitched together a number of shots and quite like the result

I have loads of photos from my recent trip to Scotland, but barely started on the editing, so here is a coal tit at Loch Garten.
